About this district
Prenzlauer Berg is not just one of the most popular districts for international tenants seeking
furnished apartments, but also for the locals. Situated just north of Mitte, the fantastic location
makes it easy to explore the city.
Berlin99 has a sizeable percentage of its portfolio in this area and it is easy to
see why, with over 300 listed buildings mainly built around the turn of the century. The beautiful Altbau buildings make great space for furnished apartments. This was also evident once the Berlin Wall
came down, old residents of the west where lured into Prenzlauer berg due to the cheap rent and
more sizable apartments. This created a buoyant student and artistic scene.
In more recent times heavy investment from south Germany and around the world has forced many
of the 90’s tenant to move further afield making way for many middle-class families who are
attracted to the central location and children friendly facilities. The area has also seen an above
average baby boom which has provided the area with many of the best kindergartens and schools in
One of Prenzlauer Bergs many famous attractions is Mauerpark which hosts a Sunday flea market
full of all types of locally made products. It also has a very entertaining karaoke where people can
test their singing skills in front of large audience! The area is also home to the oldest beer garden
Prater dating back to 1837.
