About this district

Prenzlauer Berg, often also called “Prenzlberg”, is located in the north of Mitte and has changed into a trendy and family district after the fall of the Wall. The reason why the district is particularly interesting for international tenants is probably its incomparable residential flair. Here, you will find trendy cafés, pubs and restaurants and the largest contiguous old building area in Germany in the Wilhelminian style. Life here takes place between renovated rows of houses and picturesque squares, green spaces with playgrounds and quaint bars. The unique mixture of single-family houses, condominiums and prefabricated buildings make this district the top address for apartments in Berlin.

As a district in the former East you can find her Berlin’s famous tram. It’s network is the third largest in the world. Prenzlauer Berg is densely populated, so public transport and bicycles are preferable to individual transport by car. Another special feature is the underground, which runs above ground, as it is the case in Kreuzberg. The Mauerpark is an excellent place for recreation and leisure, and the flea market held there on Sundays offers large and small treasures for the apartment.

Prenzlauer Berg used to have a lively student- and art-scene. But a few years ago, high investments from southern Germany and the whole world forced many tenants from the 90s to move away to make room for many middle-class families for which the central location and child-friendly facilities are interesting. This district has also experienced an above average baby boom, which has provided the area with many of the best kindergartens and schools in Berlin. The Berlin99 tip: the oldest Berlin beer garden “Prater”, where beer has been drunk and German food eaten since 1837.
